Katy First United Methodist Church is looking for our next Director for Little People's School. 

The Director of Little People’s School is the lead administrator of the school. The person in this position reports directly to the Senior Pastor, the School Board, and First United Methodist Church – Katy SPRC. This person will encourage children to build a relationship with God welcoming families of all races, color, religion, or ethnic origins. This person will ensure the preschool provides a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum, and loving environment where children develop spiritually, cognitively, physically, emotionally, and socially for future success.

The Director is responsible for implementing the mission and vision of First United Methodist Church-Katy.

  • Vision – To be a welcoming and serving church that embraces the diversity of our community and the inclusion of all God’s children, mobilized to address the specific needs of families, neighborhoods, and schools.

The Director leads day-to-day operations of the preschool. This job description is intended to describe the general nature of work expected of this position. Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have high school diploma or equivalent
  • Meet current combination of education and experience required by state licensing as outlined here - click for state licensing requirements
  • Complete background check through Department of Family and Protective Services
  • Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid
  • Must have strong leadership skills, effective communication, team motivation, relationship building, organizational skills, decision-making, delegation, conflict resolution, and ability to coordinate efforts from conception to completion
  • Computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to plan, allocate, and manage funds
  • Be physically able to lift fifty pounds, bend up and down, and move quickly

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain school Philosophy – It is the responsibility of the church to provide a safe, nurturing, and interesting learning environment for young children, where they will experience God’s love, learn about God’s world and be able to develop spiritually, cognitively, physically, emotionally, and socially
  • Keep LPS School Board informed of all aspects of the program including financial through board meetings
  • Comply with all state licensing regulations and local inspections
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff to ensure age-appropriate curriculum and a safe environment is maintained
  • Develop marketing and recruitment plans for enrollment
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff
  • Work with families and staff to seek outside resources for children when needed
  • Communicate with families on a regular basis
  • Maintain healthy and safe environment for children and staff – making improvements as needed
  • Set an annual budget for School Board approval and operate within approved budget
  • Plan and implement school calendar
  • Plan and oversee fundraising events to supplement budget
  • Serve as liaison between Preschool and other FUMC Ministries

 

Work Schedule:

  • The Director of LPS works an average of 30 hours per week
  • Required in-office hours are 8:00am-3:00pm, Tuesday – Friday
    Director may be required to work additional hours as needed
  • Yearly contract is based on 12-month commitment (August-July)
