Prepare the Way for the Lord, Adam Hamilton

Sundays (4 weeks), 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.; November 30 - December 21

Facilitators: Rev. Karen Dorris

This study will focus on the story and message of John the Baptist in the weeks leading up to Christmas. In Prepare the Way for the Lord: Advent and the Message of John the Baptist, Adam Hamilton explores the Advent themes of John’s life and ministry, and how John calls all followers of Jesus to prepare our hearts for his coming. Our Advent sermon series will also be focusing on John the Baptist, and so this study offers a great companion to our worship service and sermons.

*Study book is required and can be purchased through Cokesbury, Amazon, Bookshop.org, or Barnes & Noble.

The Voices of Advent, by Matthew L. Skinner

Sundays (4 weeks), 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.; November 30 - December 21

Facilitator: Carol Minze, Certified Lay Minister

Carol will guide us through conversations around various "voices" that prepare us to welcome a newborn king who will transform our world. We listen as Jesus promises to return to us in the future, to John the Baptist as he prepares the way for the Messiah, to the faithful people and poets who anticipate the magnificence of Jesus’s birth, and to the angels and visionaries who praise God when Christmas dawns. Through this study, we will consider various perspectives that shape our preparations for Christmas; you’ll hear hope in all of them. Voices of Advent helps readers experience Advent not only as the start of the Christian Church Year, but also as the powerful overture that sets the tone for the incredible story of Jesus.

*Study book is required and can be purchased through Cokesbury,  Bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble, or Amazon.

Foundry Gathering 2025

Register for the 2025 Foundry Gathering

Once a year, Katy First United Methodist members and attenders gather for our annual Foundry Gathering. This gathering is designed to help train us as a church in areas of leadership, Wesleyan spiritual formation, and church mission/vision.

This year our annual Foundry Gathering will be August 23 from 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM, and we are focusing on mission and community engagement. We will explore what Katy First does, our strategy, and why our faith compels us to be active in mission and community engagement. We hope everyone leaves inspired and empowered about how we can impact our community together!

The schedule will be:

8:30 – Light breakfast, check-in, and gathering
8:45 – Large group - the purpose and direction for the day
9:00 – Session 1*
10:15 – Break
10:25 – Session 2*
11:40 – Large group - our next steps as we leave
12:00 – Dismiss

*everyone will participate in both sessions, but be divided into smaller groups for sessions. One will focus on what we do and strategy for mission and community engagement. The other session will focus on why this is important and what our United Methodist theology says about mission and community engagement.

Materials and Video from Previous Foundry Gatherings

In August of 2024, our gathering focused  on our communal life together as we explored the topics of social holiness, social justice, reading scripture in community, and leading small groups. Though the event has concluded, all materials, notes, slides, and video recaps can be found on our Foundry website or on our Youtube Channel.
